The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including countless individuals here in our home state of Florida. From unemployed hospitality and food service workers to the state’s homeless population, a growing number of Floridians are suffering as a result of the effects of the pandemic. However, if you are lucky enough to be healthy and safe during these unprecedented times, there’s never been a better time to do your part and make a difference in the lives of others.

Now more than ever, charitable organizations in Florida are stepping up to help those most in need. Across the state of Florida, donations are helping provide food, shelter, childcare, senior services, and more, providing support for the community. If you’ve been searching for Florida charitable organizations to donate to during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are plenty of exceptional non-profits to consider. Here are a few of our favorites:

Salvation Army of Broward County

Based in Fort Lauderdale, the Salvation Army of Broward County is asking for monetary donations in addition to food, hygiene products, sanitizing items, baby supplies, and other everyday basics. Although the Salvation Army has been serving the community long before COVID-19, need has grown exponentially due to job loss and other pandemic-related effects. You can make a donation online or by phone (954-524-6991), or even volunteer to sew masks.

The Miami Pandemic Response Fund

Co-sponsored by the GMCVB, United Way, Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald, Health Foundation of South Florida, and The Miami Foundation, the Miami Pandemic Response Fund is raising funds to support unemployed hospitality workers. For individuals who have lost their hospitality industry jobs as a result of COVID-19, the fund seeks to provide assistance for food, supplies, utilities, rent, and mortgage payments. You can donate online or by calling 1-800-226-3320.

Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank is one of the largest food banks in Central Florida, serving Orlando and its neighboring communities. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the food bank has seen needs more than double, and they are working diligently to try to keep up with demand. Facilitating local food pantries, mobile food delivery, and feeding programs for children in need, the Second Harvest Food Bank is an excellent place to donate if you want to help during COVID-19.

Feeding Tampa Bay

Supplying food necessities to food pantries across 10 counties in Tampa, Feeding Tampa Bay typically utilizes food donations from grocery stores and individual donors. However, they’ve experienced a drop in donations due to COVID-19, all while need has increased dramatically. For every $1 you donate online, Feeding Tampa Bay can provide 10 meals to someone in need.

CORE (Children of Restaurant Employees)

Nationwide non-profit CORE is working to help food and beverage service industry employees with children in Florida and across the country. They are currently accepting online donations to support aid efforts for industry employees (as well as family members) diagnosed with COVID-19, helping to ensure those that are ill can be assured their families are provided for.
